The visa requirements set out herewith can’t be taken as a full statement of regulations governing visa
for China.
I. Basic Requirements:
1. Application form:
All applicants should fill in one visa application form appropriately and authentically.
2. Applicant's passport valid for at least six months with at least 2 blank visa pages.
3. One recent passport size photograph.
4. One Passport photocopy.
The Chinese Embassy has the right to decline those visa applications when applicants provide fake
information or their forms are found not duly filled out.
II. Type of Visas and Related Requirements:
1. Diplomatic/Official Visa
Diplomatic or Official Passport holders going to China on temporary visit is required to provide the
following documents:
A: A note from the Ministry of External Affairs of or concerned Embassy, Consulate or International
Organization in .
B: Visa Notification letter from relevant authorities in China, namely, Ministries and Commissions of
the State Council, the Government of all Provinces, Autonomous Regions, and Municipalities
directly under the Central Government, and Foreign Affairs Offices and Bureaus of Economy and
Commerce thereunder, and departments and units recognized by the Department of Consular
Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
It may hereby be notified that it usually takes 4 working days to process some of these visas
as reference to the relevant departments or units concerned in China is required.
2. Tourist Visa ("L" Visa) (usually single entry,30-day only):
The following documents are required:
A: Covering letter from applicant's company or employer addressed to the visa office.
B: Photocopy of a confirmed return air ticket
C: Visiting relatives should have invitation from their relatives in China and photocopies
of their relatives’ Residence Permits in China.
D: Foreigners other than s should have valid visas or valid Residence Permits in .
E: Applicants may be requested to supply proof of travel expenses.
F: Special Tourist Visa: Those who like to travel through China by his/her own
vehicle or on foot have to find a travel agent in their own countries first. And then
they should submit the document specifying the name list of the travelers, touring
schedule (namely, port and time of entry, touring route, cities to call at and
programs in China) and the vehicle information through the travel agent in their
own countries to an authorized international travel agency in China three months

3. Business Visa ("F" Visa):
The following documents are required:
A: A letter of invitation from China
(a)Applicants holding invitations from company in China may apply for single or
double entry visas.
(b)Applicants holding an original notice of visa authorization from a duly authorized
Chinese organization in China, namely, Ministries and Commissions of the State
Council, the Government of all Provinces, Autonomous Regions, and Municipalities
directly under the Central Government, and Foreign Affairs Offices and Bureaus of
Economy and Commerce thereunder, and departments and units recognized by the
Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, with a multiple entry visa notification may apply for multiple
entry visas.
B: Covering letter from applicant's company or employer addressed to the visa
office.
4. Visa for Conference, Art Performance & Sports Meeting ("F" Visa)
The following documents are required:
A: Visa notification letter from relevant authorities in China, namely, Ministries
and Commissions of the State Council, the Government of all Provinces,
Autonomous Regions, and Municipalities directly under the Central Government,
and Foreign Affairs Offices and Bureaus of Economy and Commerce thereunder,
and departments and units recognized by the Department of Consular Affairs of
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
B: Covering letter from applicant's company or employer addressed to visa office.
5. Transit Visa ("G" Visa)
The following documents are required:
A: Get the visa of destination country before applying transit visa.
B: Covering letter from applicant's company or employer addressed to visa office.
C. Photocopy of a confirmed onward air ticket to the destination country.
6. Employment Visa ("Z" Visa)
The following documents are required:
A: A notice of visa authorization from a duly authorized Chinese organization,
namely, Ministries and Commissions of the State Council, the Government of all
Provinces, Autonomous Regions, and Municipalities directly under the Central
Government, and Foreign Affairs Offices and Bureaus of Economy and
Commerce thereunder, and departments and units recognized by the Department
of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
B: Covering letter from applicant addressed to the visa office.
Photocopies of the following documents are also required:
C: Alien Employment License issued by the Ministry of Labor & Social Security,
Government of China, or Foreign Specialist's License issued by Foreign Specialist
Bureau, Government of China.
D: Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (which can be downloaded from
Chinese Embassy website or collected from Visa Office, Chinese Embassy)
issued by doctors from an state hospital.
Note: 1.When applying for visa, please also bring the original documents for
checking.
2. The employment visa holder should go through the procedures for obtaining
the Residence Permit for aliens in local public security bureau within 30 days
of entry, to avoid illegal stay.
7. Student Visa ("X" Visa)
The following document is required:
A: Covering letter from the applicant's recently graduated school, university or
applicant himself/herself.
Photocopies of the following documents are also required:
B: Admission Notice issued by the university in China.
C: Student visa application form (JW201 Form or JW202 Form) issued by the
Ministry of Education, Government of China.
D: Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (which can be downloaded from
Chinese Embassy website or collected from Visa Office, Chinese Embassy)
issued by doctors from an state hospital.
Note: 1.When applying for visa, please also bring the original documents for
checking.
2. The student visa holder should go through the procedures for obtaining
the Residence Permit for aliens in local public security bureau within 30 days
of entry, to avoid illegal stay.
8. Journalist Visa:
To apply resident journalist visa or temporary journalist visa, the applicant
should have prior permission from a relevant department or unit of the
Government of China.
9. Visas for crew members of airplane, ship or train:
Applicants should provide certain documents in accordance with bilateral
agreements and Chinese regulations.
10. Other Visas:
Please enquire the Visa Office, Chinese Embassy about applications of any
visas other than the above mentioned categories.
Note: Applicants should apply for visas before traveling to China.
III. Others
1. Visa Fee:
The Embassy only accepts demand draft issued by a bank in local country in
favor of Chinese Embassy.
2. Urgent Service:
The normal visa procedure takes 4 working days. Extra fees will be charged
respectively for Urgent Service (collect on the second or third working day after
submission).
3. The applicant may ask travel agency to apply on his/her behalf. Applications
by courier or post will not be accepted.
